CALL FOR DESIGN STUDENT VOLUNTEERS
Join AIGA Philadelphia and Spells Writing Lab to help kids celebrate “their” Philly!
AIGA Philadelphia and SPELLS Writing Lab are pleased to announce the 7th Annual This is My Philly workshop, which celebrates the special neighborhoods of our city. Children ages 8–13 from city schools will have the opportunity to work with professionally trained creatives in a college setting. Spells Writing Lab volunteers and graphic design students from local colleges work with the children to put their feelings about Philadelphia on paper, creating a collage and supporting poem expressing their love for Philly. Emphasis will be placed on successfully expressing ideas through the integration of image and the written word.
The intent of “This is My Philly” is threefold: to promote the power of images and the written word, to promote art and design as a viable career option to inner-city elementary school students and to promote diversity in the field of graphic design. “This is My Philly” engages and motivates participants by focusing on Philadelphia’s positive qualities, as well as the responsibility we all have in maintaining and improving our community
