AIGA Philadelphia presents MECRO: CHROMA
AIGA Philadelphia is proud to present CHROMA, new work by Glossblack artist MECRO. The exhibit will be on display at Fishtown's Bluecadet gallery January 17 - February 28. Many of his large typographic murals and collaborations can be found around the Fishtown neighborhood as well.
This body of work is a quiet contemplation of letters; a study of the way they interact with one another and how we as the viewer interpret them. We interpret meaning from typeface daily, often on a subconscious level. The artist has disregarded the formal rigid guidelines of text, reinventing how we view letters, placing them in an abundant and vibrant world of their own.
Join us for a First Friday reception on February 2, 2018!
About Glossblack Artist: MECRO
Raised in the greater Philadelphia area, MECRO is an American freight writer who began painting in the early 2000s. With over a decade of work under his belt, he has solidified himself as an internationally recognized practitioner of graffiti and typography.
Today, his work is predominantly in aerosol and oil paint, which always includes dynamic lettering, bold colors, layering techniques, and a dedication to cleanliness. He continues to test the boundaries of bold typographic art and although each piece is much different from the next, they are instantly recognizable as his own.
While demand increases and commissioned work grows, MECRO is taking on larger commercial projects that allow him to bring his work into the mainstream, including campaigns with Gap, Budweiser, Justin Bieber, Comcast, Google, Citibank, 76ers, NFLPA, Redbull, Boost Mobile, etc. From massive neighborhood landmarks in Philadelphia to the fine detail of canvas letter studies, his portfolio is a reflection of his prolific graffiti career and his passion for typography.
