In an article published last month in Philly Ad News, noted digital artist Dan Marcolina ponders if AI is the “end of creativity, or just a fresh beginning?” Another post recently shared by Communication Arts ominously states “Adobe’s Integration of AI into Photoshop Raises Concerns of Job Losses and Image Manipulation.” Yet another in The New York Times recently asked if Chat GTP and Midjourney are “powerful tools or a crutch?” Indeed, a lot has been written about AI, with opinion coming at us almost as fast as advances in the technology itself. All of which leads to one thing—designers everywhere begging to question if AI is the doom to us all, or, as celebrated commercial photographer Tim Tadder puts it “the most powerful creation tool ever made.”
Join AIGA Philadelphia and local designer (and former AIGA Vice President) Dan Marcolina for a night of conversation and demonstration aimed at answering that question from an experienced designers point of view.
Over the course of the evening, Dan will not just highlight his thoughts on generative AI, but demonstrate several techniques on how he transforms his original photographs using a unique AI workflow and, to use Dan’s words, “the best ways to art direct AI to achieve your intent.” We will not only see the process of creating, upscaling, manipulating and color correcting original imagery with AI generators such as Midjourney and Dall-e, but Dan will also punctuate the process with ideas on exploiting AI for Design, Motion, Augmented Reality and Virtual reality. In addition, you’ll get a chance to network with fellow image makers, and browse a gallery of Dan’s Large color prints.
This event is a must see for artists, photographers, designers and anyone in visual communications using original imagery to tell a story.
Refreshments and Snacks will be provided. Beer provide by the Well Crafted Ambler Brewery.
