Collaborative Painting Night with the Mural Arts Program, ArtWell and Al-Aqsa Islamic Academy

Calling all mentors and mentees! Join us for a painting night to benefit Al-Aqsa Islamic Academy, a school and mosque in Fishtown. The Academy is hosting us for a community mural-making evening. We have been invited to help put the finishing touches on panels that will be applied as a mural at the Al Aqsa Mosque. (We are assured that no painting expertise is necessary – this is a paint-by-number job!) The hope is that this commissioned mural project will “bridge gaps between people of different faiths” in the neighborhood. This is an opportunity for conversation in a relaxed atmosphere, a little easy painting and the satisfaction of doing some good community work.

Join us at on Thursday, February 11 5-7 pm at the Asian Arts Initiative, 1219 Vine Street in Philadelphia. Go to the entrance that says Mural Arts Department and meet with Gail Lloyd, our host. Come make some art—and some new friends! (And who knows, maybe we’ll head to Chinatown after for some dim sum?)

Read more about the mural project here. Directions to Asian Arts Initiative here.

Please note: this event is by invitation only!
