Night Caps are back! Rejoin us for another season at United by Blue Coffeehouse in Old City with host Mikey Ilagan of Geekadelphia. Season 2 welcomes esteemed guests Christine Fischer and Ray Nichols to discuss what is more valuable — Education or Experience? If you are debating on that graduate degree, or sifting through piles of resumes, this episode is for you.
Doors open at 6:30pm, and taping runs from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. Seating is limited, so register quickly and arrive early.

ABOUT OUR GUESTS
Christine Fischer is a Design Strategist with Vanguard in the Participant Strategy and Develop division. She has lead numerous brand design initiatives developing strategies for the brand communication architecture, environmental branding, as well as many promotional and educational campaigns. Prior to working at Vanguard, Christine practiced as a design consultant for 14 years in Wilmington, Delaware delivering brand design services to non-profits and small business. In addition to her professional consulting, Christine has been an adjunct faculty at Moore College of Art and Design, University of Delaware, University of the Arts, and Wilmington University. She was a member of the inaugural faculty at the Delaware College of Art and Design and developed their initial Graphic Design curriculum. She began her teaching career as an assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Christine holds an MFA from the Yale School of Art (1990) and a BFA from the University of the Arts (1984).
Ray Nichols holds an MFA degree in Advertising Design from Louisiana Tech University. He was coordinator of Visual Communications at the University of Delaware from 1978 to 2005 (retiring in 2006), where he helped lead the program to an international reputation.
His own design work, often collaborating with his students, has been honored in juried exhibitions by the Art Directors Club of New York, The One Club for Art & Copy, University and College Designers Association, along with Print Magazine and Graphis Posters.
In 2008 The Art Directors Club of New York announced an annual award for instructors in the fields of advertising design, graphic design, interactive design, photography, and illustration. Ray was included as one of five in the inaugural exhibition held in October 2008. The ADCNY describes the ADC Grandmasters as “educators whose careers in creative education have impacted and mentored generations of student creatives and whose legacy is a far-reaching network of industry leaders and professionals in Advertising and Design.”
Since retirement Ray and his wife, Jill, have operated Lead Graffiti, a letterpress studio, which now serves as the foundation for their creative output. Two recent major projects are:
- Tour de Lead Graffiti, a major endurance letterpress project which is in its fifth year and will be exhibiting at the AIGA / Philadelphia SPACE gallery in June and July, and
- Moments Carved in Paper, a series of 10 books highlighting stories from Ray’s career.
