Join us for an intimate evening of story and type play with Los Angeles-based Art Director, Graphic Designer, Illustrator, Letterer, Storyteller, Pole Dancer, Zine Mom, and Sex Positivity Advocate, Jillian Adel. Jillian has been designing images & ad campaigns and drawing typography for cash for almost a decade. After 6 years in NYC agency life, she now lives and freelances full time in LA making work for the likes of Toyota, Uber, The New York Times, Planned Parenthood and Target. Apart from commercial work, Jillian has a sex and body positive zine called Divine, a monthly experimental story & art mailer called The Good Rule, and performs pole dance. She aims to make work that breathes, vibrates and connects, and holds space for those who hold sex positive or generally non-conservative identities both within the design community and at large.
In this special event, stories will be shared about building an independent design practice in a new city, self discovery, panic attacks, sexual feminism, and money. Then we’ll practice letting our unique typographic voice come to life through experimental exercises based around the creative values informally dubbed as: The Good Rule. Come with an open mind and your favorite drawing supplies. Some supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring as well. No type or lettering experience required!
