In 2014, AIGA will mark its 100th year as the professional association for design. A yearlong series of celebrations and events are being planned!
AIGA celebrates its Centennial Day on January 21, 2014, with special events being held around the country at many local AIGA chapters. AIGA Philadelphia will mark this important milestone with a panel discussion featuring founding members.
In 1981 the first local chapter of AIGA started in Philadelphia, but few know the intriguing stories behind it:
What set of circumstances led a small number of designers to come together to found a professional association for design? What was it like to work as a designer in the city in the 1970s? What prevailing factors in the environment drove a need for excellence in design? How did the function of the organization differ from today and in what ways was it the same?
Come hear a panel discussion with founding AIGA Philadelphia president Joel Katz, vice president Bob Warkulwiz, secretary Dale Strominger Parenti, and founding members Alina Wheeler and Hans-U. Allemann, providing an historical context to better understand and prepare for the future of the craft of design.
This is a chance to look back—to understand our roots as designers and the tradition of impact we all share. It is a chance to look forward—to understand how tomorrow’s designers will influence our culture and to plan for their success.
AIGA 100 will be a party, and so much more than that.
Light refreshments will be served.
Check your membership status here before registering. Please bring your membership card with you to the panel discussion.
