Who are You?: Designing person, place, and purpose.
Design rests with the individual crafting the work. And whether physical or virtual, the place and purpose of design should inform its creator, and vice versa. In his talk, Craig Welsh will explore one of the main tenants of the design process, and his unique understanding of it.
Copies of his book "Design:Portfolio; Self-promotion at its best" from Rockport Publishers will be available. Published in June 2013, the book features work from 100+ designers/studios around the world.
Doors open at 6:30pm. Presentation begins at 7pm. Light refreshments will be available.
Prior to the lecture, the unexpected design work of Go Welsh, a Lancaster, PA-based studio, visits AIGA Philadelphia's SPACE gallery. A range of attention-grabbing and internationally-exhibited projects using materials as varied as license plates, paper towels, anodized aluminum, cardboard boxes, and more, will be on display throughout May. The First Friday opening reception will 5/2 starting at 5pm. All exhibits at SPACE are free to the public.

About Craig Welsh

Craig is principal/creative director of Go Welsh, a Lancaster, PA-based design studio, and co-founder of Society of Design (SOD).
Craig's work has been awarded and published widely (One Show, D&AD, Communication Arts, Type Directors Club, Philadelphia Design Awards, etc.) and has been exhibited in fifteen countries. He has judged creative competitions in the United States and Canada, curated/authored "Design:Portfolio" from Rockport Publishers, and has written several articles for leading design magazines and blogs.
Craig was educated as an architect while earning a BS Architecture degree from Penn State University and later earned his MA Advertising Design degree from Syracuse University and MFA Graphic Design degree from Marywood University. He is an assistant professor of communications and humanities at Penn State Harrisburg and is a visiting instructor at Marywood University.
