Join AIGA Philadelphia and the Philadelphia design community for a night of conversation focusing on the resilience, persistence and entrepreneurship of young practitioners joining the Visual Communication community (graphic design, illustration, ux/ui, photography and art direction) as well as seasoned design practitioners embarking on new professional journeys. Through work curated from AIGA’s Appear Exhibition (on display as part of the 2023 Design Festival from Oct 4 to 15), panelists will explore both their personal takeaways and how they built on the experience gleaned during the “unseen era” of Philadelphia design (2020-2022).

A reception with refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will proceed and follow the talks.

ABOUT APPEAR:

AIGA devised APPEAR as a platform aimed at allowing Philadelphia-area designers to overcome the lost opportunities, both in recognition and in connections, resulting from what we’re calling the “unseen era” of design (2020-2022). We all know what this era was: limited or no live exhibitions, senior showcases or gallery openings. Portfolio reviews relegated to Zoom. Events leading to connections that designers more readily made before and after this era stolen by circumstances beyond anyone’s control.  

APPEAR’s goal is to give these platforms back by creating a venue where the established design community can properly welcome these designers into the practice and celebrate the effort, passion and hunger which lead to this collection of extraordinary work.
