Position: Industrial/Product Designer

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Website: ROAR for Good

Job Description:
We are looking for a industrial/product designer that is passionate about leveraging technology for societal good. The superstar candidate has a mix of UI/UX expertise, as well as an industrial and graphic design background. You will drive future iterations of our safety product and be in charge of the visual concepts and assets of every channel (including our website, mobile apps, marketing collateral, POP displays, packaging, social media networks, and newsletters). Join our team and help us change the world.
This is a full-time, in-house position in our office in Philadelphia, PA. The start date would be in late March/early April. ROAR is a social impact certified B-corporation helping reduce the incidence of assaults against women while addressing the underlying causes of violence. Through fashionable self-defense wearable technology called Athena, the solution helps deter attacks and instantly calls for help. ROAR recognizes that no device, including Athena, will solve the issue of assaults against women. That’s why, for each device sold, the company invests a substantial percentage of proceeds into organizations that are teaching empathy, respect, and healthy relationships to youth – the types of programs shown to reduce violence in adulthood. The company plans to begin shipping its Athena product in early 2017. Entrepreneur Magazine featured ROAR as one of the Top 10 in Wearable Wellness and Marie Claire named ROAR’s Athena one of the best wearable tech devices you need in your life.

  • Develop concepts and designs to enhance our safety jewelry with DFM in mind, including our next product
  • Conduct user testing of products to ensure functionality, safety, and appearance
  • Create a look consistent with all of ROAR’s branding/collateral
  • Present the user interface visually so information is easy to read, understand and find

  • Expertise in 3D design software (e.g. SolidWorks or Rhino)
  • Proficient with industry standard design tools (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch)
  • Outside-the-box creativity
  • Product development
  • Creating animated content/graphics such as gifs a plus

  • A passion for the problems we are trying to solve
  • Self-driven with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build good working relationships
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and independently
  • High attention to detail
  • Must be self-motivated to prioritize and manage workload and meet critical project deadlines
  • Envision big picture goals and identify the steps needed to achieve them
  • The ability to manage ambiguity, work autonomously and multi-task in an agile environment
