Communications Strategy

The Creative Communications strategy is to develop persuasive communications that attract new consumers, retain existing consumers and motivate consumers to increase their average annual purchase with Lilly Pulitzer.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Creative Communications Print Designer is to:

  • Lead in creating and executing Lilly’s resort chic retail environments that delights the consumer and results in sales.
  • Develop artwork for the Communications platform of Life in Print, supporting the Creative Communications strategy.

The Lilly Pulitzer brand is proud of its key competitive advantage of print. The six primary responsibilities of the Creative Communications Print Designer are as follows:

  • Understand the Lilly Pulitzer Consumer and Positioning in the Marketplace;
  • Lead in creating and executing Lilly’s resort chic retail environments that delights the consumer and results in sales.
  • Develop artwork for the Communications platform of Life in Print, supporting the Creative Communications strategy.
  • Interface with departments within Product, Distribution and Communications in order to support the company strategy and seasonal campaigns;
  • Perform Duties as may be required by the Vice President of Marketing and Creative Communications; and,
  • Maintain all activities consistent with the product development and creative communications calendars.

The six primary responsibilities are discussed below.

Understand the Lilly Pulitzer Consumer and Positioning in the Marketplace.
Understand the positioning of Lilly Pulitzer in the marketplace and how Lilly Pulitzer is differentiated from the competition. Lilly Pulitzer® is a lifestyle, branded marketing company serving the needs of the affluent customer at ease. The company’s positioning is “Lilly’s Resort Chic” and has three distinct key competitive advantages;

  • Print – the Lilly Pulitzer® brand has a distinct, unique & iconic print style.
  • Resort – the brand has an authentic and inherent understanding of the resort lifestyle.
  • Emotional connection – Lilly Pulitzer® is authentic, colorful & happy that uniquely connects to women

Know and appreciate the Lilly Pulitzer consumer. This includes understanding the taste, fashion and lifestyle preferences and characteristics of the consumer. Recognize why the consumer purchases Lilly Pulitzer merchandise instead of competing products. Understand the successes and failures the company has had providing product and communications for the target consumer. Translate this understanding into effective designs that delight her.

Lead in creating and executing Lilly’s resort chic retail environments that delights the consumer and results in sales.

  • Lead in the design and execution of resort chic retail environments.
  • Paint and execute the store vision, orchestrate all material purchases for implementation, manager staff to complete the job. (example: order shells, paint and caulk, climb ladders to apply shells to walls, paint coral and sea life on walls)
  • Work closely with Vice President of Marketing and Creative Communications, Retail Visual Director and Distribution channel heads to create store environments that embody Lilly’s Resort Chic with a nod to the local environments of the location.
  • All retail environments need to appeal to the Lilly Pulitzer consumer, creating a ‘destination’.
  • Lead in developing new approaches to store design and techniques to innovate in the aesthetic space we have created for our brand.
  • Prepare, pitch and distribute store print design plans in conjunction with the Retail Visual Director and Distribution channel heads.
  • Create a calendar for store environments needs, hire freelance staff to accommodate the schedule, manage freelance staffing budgets and lead in the execution of all environments.
  • Travel to execute retail store environments.

Develop artwork for the Communications platform of Life in Print, supporting the Creative Communications strategy.

  • Lead in developing artwork for the Communications platform of Life in Print.
  • Work closely with Vice President of Marketing and Creative Communications, Manager of Graphic Design and the Ecommerce team to create visuals that bring the seasonal prints to life, embody Lilly’s Resort Chic and tie print with the resort chic campaign imagery,
  • Work closely with the Print Design Team to understand their inspiration and execution of print,
  • Create, scan, clean and proof artwork for production.
  • Understand how artwork is layered with seasonal imagery, and gain knowledge in how to best translate Life in Print on paper and digital communications,
  • Go on press for printing of direct mail pieces,
  • Work with the social media team to translate assets for digital use.
  • Contribute to inspiration presentations and be a leader in the innovation of the Life in Print platform.

Interface with departments within Product, Distribution and Communications in order to support the company strategy and seasonal campaigns;

  • Collaborate and incorporate feedback within various departments within the company,
  • Gain knowledge of Lilly Pulitzer print, translate it effectively within Communications, share the assets, and guide best practices in use.

Perform Duties as may be required by the Vice President of Creative Communications.

  • Lead in representing the brand through store renovations and events.
  • Create concept boards and themes.
  • Attend select design meetings.
  • Attend select inspirational trips.
  • Perform other duties as may be required.

Maintain all activities consistent with the product development and creative communications calendar.

  • The CEO distributes a twelve month calendar, which outlines tasks required by the company their deadlines. The Creative Communications Print Designer should be aware of all important dates.
  • The Vice President of Marketing and Creative Communications manages the communications calendar; the Creative Communications Print Designer must be aware of and adhere to all deadlines.

SKILLS REQUIRED PERFORMING SUCCESSFULLY

  • The taste level and fashion sense to understand the Lilly Pulitzer consumer and ability to translate Lilly Pulitzer print to communicate the brand.
  • Genuine excitement for the Lilly Pulitzer concept. The Creative Communications Print Designer must be enthusiastic for the vision for the merchandise, consistent with the positioning in the marketplace.
  • A fashion point of view and attitude, which are appropriate for Lilly Pulitzer.
  • The Creative Communications Print Designer must have the artistic and technical skills to develop prints and translate existing seasonal prints into communications tools.
  • Proficient skills in graphic design, CAD and Nedgrahpics® software.
  • Basic personal computer skills, such as Word and Excel in a Microsoft Windows environment, are helpful.
  • The sense of urgency necessary in the retail apparel and accessory industry.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • A four year college degree is required. This must be in print design, textile design, graphic design or a closely related subject.
  • This is a position that requires at least two years of experience.

MISCELLANEOUS:

  • This position is classified as full time salaried; it is exempt and is not eligible for overtime.
  • The position may require some domestic travel as appropriate.
  • Given the seasonality of the business, this position may require flexible, additional working hours during peak periods.
  • This position is based in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia.
  • This position is reviewed annually.
