Job Description:

The University of the Arts seeks an Assistant/Associate Professor with expertise in one of two specialties, Web/Interaction or Motion/Broadcast Design. This position is a shared position between the Graphic Design and the Design, Art + Technology, BFA programs, in the College of Art, Media and Design for a multi-year/non-tenure track faculty position. Salary and rank are commensurate with experience.

The successful candidate will be skilled in several of the following: user experience design, information architecture, non-linear narratives, and responsive design. If the candidate is more expert in motion design, it is expected that they will have a strong sense of film form, sound, and cinematic time. All candidates should have a strong sense of visual form, typography, and critical language.

The full-time teaching load is 18 credits, typically six courses per year (3/3). Assistant Professors typically begin with a 3-year renewable contract and Associate with 5-years. In addition to teaching, full-time faculty are expected to maintain a professional art practice; serve on university committees; advise students; and participate in curriculum development and other departmental activities. The search committee will consider the candidate’s potential to work towards a leadership role in either of these programs and the university. Research leave opportunities and sabbaticals are available to full-time faculty.

The University’s Academic and Strategic Plans include greater opportunity for collaborative learning and encouragement to our faculty and students to question conventions and boundaries that underpin disciplinary traditions.

The combined enrollment for the College of Art, Media and Design is approximately 1200 students. The curriculum of the Design Art + Technology Program and the Graphic Design Program are designed to encourage students to be creative and inventive while they develop a solid technical competency serving them well in professional and fine art practices.

Its undergraduate and graduate programs prepare students for more than 150 professional career paths in the visual, performing, media, design and communication arts, and related fields.
