Meet the Board, Gaby Heit, Exhibitions

Meet the AIGA Philadelphia Board

We have an amazing group of board members at AIGA Philly and we want you to meet them all! Meet our Exhibitions Chair, Gaby Heit. Gaby curates, installs, and runs all of our exhibitions from start to finish. Her latest installment… CHROMA, new work by Glossblack artist MECRO! Come say hello to her tonight during the opening reception at Bluecadet.

What’s your day job?
Graphic designer, photo stylist, art consultant, curator, educator, connector, Jackie of all trades.

What inspires you?
Really connecting to a work of art, and wanting to know everything about it.

Do you have a hidden talent? What is it?
I used to sing quite a bit years ago. Now I’m a karaoke fiend, and can hit the mic in a moment’s notice.

Tell us about a unique or quirky fact about you
I used to make tons of stop-motion little animations with my Dad’s Super-8 as a kid. I often made them in place of book reports for school.

What was the last concert you attended?
I saw a bunch of fabulous throw-back Jazz bands at Jazz Age on the Delaware.

Favorite typeface?
Univers, especially condensed. I use it for everything.

What do you love about AIGA?
It’s so great to be part of a community of like-minded and talented people. It was a wonderful welcome joining AIGA as a new resident of Philly.

What did you want to be when you were a kid?
I wanted to be a cartoonist. Everyone I grew up with knew it too.

Who’s your design superhero?
My Mom. She creates very intricate patterns, vibrating op-art, psychedelic-style designs, and wall graphics. The world should see her work.

If you were an ice cream flavor, which one would you be and why?
Every flavor in a tall tower on a cone. I can’t discriminate about my favorite thing in the entire world.

If you could learn any skill, what would it be?
I really need to learn to ride a bike. I’ve been putting it off for too long.

If you had a time machine, would you go forward or back in time?
Back in time. I love history, and different periods in culture are so fascinating to me. I’d also like to go back to my teenage days, and redo more than a few things.

What’s your favorite book?
Auntie Mame. The only book that ever made me consistently laugh out loud.

Anything else you want people to know about you?
I’m single 😉
