Job Description:
At Eastern Standard, Senior Designers are problem-solvers who create interfaces that elegantly merge form and function through a deep understanding of visual and interactive design. As experienced practitioners, they take ownership of their work, openly give and receive feedback, and maintain a positive attitude. A Senior Designer is expected to communicate clearly and thoughtfully during the entire design process. They base their design decisions on project objectives and always put the user first.
Responsibilities:
- Lead design projects from concept to completion — with a bias towards objective results
- Master the creation of design systems for the web with a full understanding of all aspects and implications of the system components
- Understand project objectives and be prepared to explain and validate all choices
- Conceptualize and present original ideas and design approaches with little to no direction, with the ability to be creative within constraints
- Manage feedback objectively and professionally, both from clients and internal team members
- Takes a measured and creative approach to problem-solving and displays the ability to face challenges with a positive outlook
- Provide direction and mentorship to junior designers
- Remain involved in professional development and other knowledge-sharing activities in the broader design community
- Demonstrate thought leadership, write blog posts, and give talks/presentations
Qualifications:
- A strong command of visual design principles, typography, color, and grids
- Ability to work in seamless collaboration with team members across multiple disciplines
- Strong presentation and communication skills and the ability to defend the work created, demonstrated through both internal interactions and presentations to clients
- Current working knowledge and proficiency in Sketch, InVision, Adobe Suite, and other industry-standard design tools
- An excellence in time management and ability to meet design budgets for projects while still producing memorable and well-executed work
